Very cute。 I especially like the portrayal of Kiki learning how to be a teenager and recognizing that she still has a lot to learn。 A good message for us all!

A great story about coming of age, optimism, kindness and mothers and daughters。

A coming-of-age story, Kiki is a thirteen-year-old witch who is ready to go off and find her own town to look after and serve just as has been the witchy tradition since ages past。  Unfortunately, as each generation passes, witches seem to be forgetting how to do magic。  In the old days, witches knew many different kinds of magic!  Kiki's mother only knows two kinds, and Kiki, herself, knows only one: the Gift of Flight。  Even so, Kiki is not one to shirk from a challenge, so she sets off with h A coming-of-age story, Kiki is a thirteen-year-old witch who is ready to go off and find her own town to look after and serve just as has been the witchy tradition since ages past。  Unfortunately, as each generation passes, witches seem to be forgetting how to do magic。  In the old days, witches knew many different kinds of magic!  Kiki's mother only knows two kinds, and Kiki, herself, knows only one: the Gift of Flight。  Even so, Kiki is not one to shirk from a challenge, so she sets off with her black cat familiar - Jiji - to find her own place in the world and learn how to use her one magical skill to serve others and make money for herself。  We follow Kiki through her first year as she comes into her own as a witch, meets a lot of good friends as well as silly people, and grows more into herself and her own strength。This is a cute story that was made into a Studio Ghibli movie of the same name。  Well worth a read if you want to delve into the wider world of the Ghibli movie, Kiki's Delivery Service。Three things I liked about this book: The people felt and acted real。  There are a lot of excellent characters that help flesh out the world。  The entire "witch" premise is rather unique and a fun take on an old idea。Three things I did not like about this book: Kiki was a little difficult to relate to at times and a touch annoying。  Some of the situations and wordings were a little odd, but that may be due to the fact that it was translated from another language。  I found Tombo to be an annoying character, but also rather sweet。On a scale of 1-10, I give this book an 8!  A little childish, but never condescending or oversimplified like I find in many kids' books today。  Still a fun and relaxing read。 。。。more

Oh, the nostalgia! The movie remains one of my all-time favorites from childhood。 When I found out it was a book, couldn't find it in English, so I was so excited when it became available last year! Maybe we'll get a translation of them too one day)。 Because of that, this felt like a mix of old and new, following Kiki through some scenes that are familiar and some that are only in the book!It was also interesting to learn just a little more about the magic and witches' traditions。 But it was only a small bite of information, so again I'm really hoping to see the rest of this series translated in the future!I would definitely recommend this for young readers and families, as well as fans of the film looking to relive a piece of their childhood。 。。。more

Beautifully wholesome read。 This is a kids story first and foremost but one with wonder and a nostalgic eye for adventure。 Adored Kiki and Jiji and their shared humor, but was also amazed at how their town felt alive and the citizens seemed earnestly real。 It reminded me a bit of reading Roald Dahl when i was younger。

Lovers of the Studio Ghibli film will love this book。 This novel provides all of the fun and magic that is expected with a witch story。 I loved this book so much and it really made me want to rewatch the film for the 101st time!

Cute interlinked kids stories which are easy to read, and would make for good reading aloud for parent and older kids。 Kiki's relationship with her cat (which is why this was recommended to me) is absolutely the highlight。 Cute interlinked kids stories which are easy to read, and would make for good reading aloud for parent and older kids。 Kiki's relationship with her cat (which is why this was recommended to me) is absolutely the highlight。 。。。more

The movie Kiki's Delivery Service is based on this book。 It's a delightful slice-of-life book about a girl who is a witch and runs a delivery service in a seaside town。 If I have any complaints, it's that everyone seems to make up and get along a little too easily。 The story about taking the instruments out of their cases and stringing them on her broom was a bit hard to believe too。 The movie Kiki's Delivery Service is based on this book。 It's a delightful slice-of-life book about a girl who is a witch and runs a delivery service in a seaside town。 If I have any complaints, it's that everyone seems to make up and get along a little too easily。 The story about taking the instruments out of their cases and stringing them on her broom was a bit hard to believe too。 。。。more

A very sweet storyWhen Kiki leaves home with her cat to become a proper witch she is shy and kinda scared。 But she makes several new friends and has a couple adventures and realizes that without even knowing it she now is the town witch。 A beautiful tale suited for people of all ages。

It's just so wholesome! I have loved witches and Kiki's Delivery Service (the Ghibli film adaptation) since I was little, so it was a lot of fun to read the novel。 Definitely written for kids but it was an enjoyable read anyway! Loved it! I was previously only familiar with the Miyazaki film of the same name, but this was a wonderful read that is just as warm and endearing as the film, if not moreso。 The beginning was suuuuper similar to the film, but about 1/3rd of the way through it changed from what I knew and became a new experience, which was nice。 I highly recommend, and will likely buy a copy to keep around for when my kids are old enough to enjoy it!

third time's apparently a charm! my third studio ghibli-related book, and finally i hit a gem。 this was a lovely read, quite similar to the movie adaptation, but also very different, focused a lot more on kiki herself and the struggles and adventures she goes through, and much less on her blooming friendship with tombo。 new characters were introduced too, which i quite liked, and the fact that she is so unexpectedly sassy (kind of reminds me of my experience with alice in wonderland) just made i third time's apparently a charm! my third studio ghibli-related book, and finally i hit a gem。 this was a lovely read, quite similar to the movie adaptation, but also very different, focused a lot more on kiki herself and the struggles and adventures she goes through, and much less on her blooming friendship with tombo。 new characters were introduced too, which i quite liked, and the fact that she is so unexpectedly sassy (kind of reminds me of my experience with alice in wonderland) just made it the more fun to read 。。。more

I thought a fun little story about a witch growing into her potential seemed like a fitting way to ring in the fall season。 And I was right! Kiki and the adventures she has in the seaside town of Koriko made for a light, breezy fall time read。 The titular Kiki, after reaching her 13th birthday, has decided to embrace the witch in her and find a new town to call her home。 As she finds her place in her new town, she learns more about herself and comes into the witch she wants to be。 I really enjoy I thought a fun little story about a witch growing into her potential seemed like a fitting way to ring in the fall season。 And I was right! (⭑⭑⭑⭑⭑) I was so excited when I saw this book in Madrid Book Fair。 If you have seen one of my last reels, you know Kiki's Delivery Service is one of my fav Ghibli movies。 I used to loved when I was little, it was such a comfort movie。 I really liked the book, it was like a little fairy tail。 It is obviously for little children, and I definitely like the Ghibli movie more, but this was just so sweet (⭑⭑⭑⭑⭑) I was so excited when I saw this book in Madrid Book Fair。 If you have seen one of my last reels, you know Kiki's Delivery Service is one of my fav Ghibli movies。 I used to loved when I was little, it was such a comfort movie。 I really liked the book, it was like a little fairy tail。 It is obviously for little children, and I definitely like the Ghibli movie more, but this was just so sweet 。。。more
